I'm pretty sure these are available in the UK to absorb damp in caravans. It comes as a kit. Usually it is a rectangular plastic container, with a clip-on lid. This is slotted, or has holes to allow in the surrounding air.
It comes with a packet of crystals, which looks more like white salt. The contents are emptied into the container which is then placed on a ledge somewhere in the caravan where damp is suspected. Best take it out before towing to a new site! Yes, it does turn to a clear liquid, which I guess is mostly water.
