I did this workshop for several years, and am now starting to work
professionally as a theorbist and lutenist. I can confirm that Lucas
Harris is an amazing musician and teacher - easily worth a trip to
Toronto. It's an intense but rewarding workshop - a lot of music to
learn in a short time.

Although the application deadline has passed, we still have a couple of
spots to fill in the lute class for this summer's Tafelmusik Baroque
Summer Institute, held in Toronto June 2-15. The Institute welcomes
some 90 instrumentalists and singers to two weeks of intensive study of
baroque performance practice, including several faculty and participant
concerts.
The lute class is taught by Lucas Harris, who is a very gifted and
generous teacher. The programme offers morning classes in solo
repertoire, as well as daily classes/lessons in continuo and a wide
range of playing experiences, from madrigal ensembles, instrumental
chamber works, aria ensembles, orchestral and choral/orchestral works.
It's a terrific way for a more experienced student to do lots of
playing, and for less experienced students to get their feet wet. The
programme is open to advanced students (university-level) or
professionals.
