Here are the string distances measured between the centers of the strings:
Course 6: 4.1 mm at the bridge and 3.4 mm at the nut.
Course 7: 4.2 mm and 3.6mm, respectively.
Both courses have nylon filament copper overspun bases and nylgut trebles.
Does that sound like collision courses?
I don't know about the spacing, but what caught my eye here is that
you're using this type of string. I (relatively) recently put on all
new nylgut and overspun strings on my 10 course that has this problem.
While the strings I was replacing were pretty old and well worn, what I
noticed immediately was the different timbre and behavior of these new
strings. Now I've used Aquila nylgut strings for quite awhile. But it
just seemed to me that these were different, and poorer. Especially the
copper wound basses. It was the case that the previous time I'd ordered
similar gauge strings they were silver wound, and sounded a heck of a
lot better. I don't know that the new strings collide more, but the
greater twanginess in the timbre makes the collisions that happen that
much more irritating. I laid out quite abit of money for the new set of
strings, and can't really afford to replace them right away. But while
previously I have been quite happy with nylguts, this is the first time
I've started wondering about doubling my expense and really trying guts.
