I think the petition was addressed also to the Italian government.
Originally there were two petitions (one for the EU, the other for the
Italian government), but later they were collapsed (I believe); but
yes, Mimmo in his message also thanks those, who as Lucca did, sent
mails directly.
However, it is the result, rather than from whence the main influence
came, which surely counts most.
Thanks to all who helped bring this about.
Regards
Anthony

Dear List,
please also note that many of us wrote DIRECTLY to an e-mail
address that Mimmo Peruffo mentioned in his e-mail.
As far as I understand what Mimmo published today on his website, the
positive reaction came from the Italian regulator, not from any EU
body.

I believe the petition originally came from musicians around Dmitry

Whether there were intermediaries in addressing the petition to the

Many other groups (orchestras, etc) could well have intervened
directly, and hop

are also music lovers. But the petition definitely played a role in
raising gene

Newpaper articles, may also have been among the influences.

Good news indeed Anthony.
>From who was the formal submission of the petition - surely not this
chat room!
I'd be interested to know which body/organisation had so quick and
influence on
the notoriously slow moving Italian government!

Martyn

Dear lutenists
Our petition to the EU and EU governments has had an
intitial
success in relation to the Italian government, which has swiftly
taken
note of the petitions just demands, now allowing the import of raw
gut
from some European and non European countries, as well as allowing
the
use of some Italian beef gut. This happy result will of course be
applicable to both the Italian string makers, Aquila and Toro (who
also
supported the petition, and who is the main supplier of several other
gut string companies in the EU).
I am personally relieved to see that Aquila now does plan to restart
gut string making, and so loaded gut may be back (for which I
personally
thank all those who signed).

I believe it is still worth signing the petition, if you have not
done
so, as it seems that each EU country has to shift its own
interpretations of the EU rulings. Furthermore, the petition goes
further and calls for a World Heritage status for gut string making.
Thanks to all
Anthony
