I talked to John last week by phone and then sent him pics by email, so he is very much alive.
He said he has never seen a neck so severely bent. It will not be a cheap repair, but given the yen exchange rate, I'm better off taking it to the states and having it done by him. If I could manage to take my archlute too and get a new top put on, I'd have all my instruments in working order.
