I once went (as a player!) to a day's course on fifteenth century dance.
Evidently fifteenth century dance is,or was, contentious - with rival
camps interpreting the sparse evidence in different ways. Ian brought
along some of his own arrangements although he wanted players to work
out their own parts.
As I remember, Ian thought that the surviving tenors (even if they were
tuneful in themselves) would have had a top and bottom part added.
Here's a (slightly ragged) go at his arrangement of Anello, played as a
'bas' ensemble of lute and gittern.
The gittern was made by Bill Samson. (It's got a lovely sound but I do
not find it easy to play with a plectrum.)
