L'Aquila The "Alfredo Casella " Conservatoire together with the Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese, the Societa' Aquilana dei Concerti 'B. Barattelli", the Solisti Aquilani , the Societa' della Musica e del Teatro "P. Riccitelli", the Camerata musicale Sulmonese, Roma Barocco Festival, with the support of the City of L'Aquila and the Istituto Abruzzese di Storia Musicale, under the Patronage of the Abruzzo Region, the Province of L'Aquila and the City of L'Aquila are organizing the 2nd International "Maurizio Pratola" Competition for Early Music Auditorium of the State Conservatory of Music "A. Casella" 14th, 15th, 16th July 2012 1. The Competition is aimed at young musicians interested in performing an Early Music repertoire. 2. The Competition is divided into two sections: section 1 dedicated to lutists born after 1st January 1977, section 2 dedicated to Chamber Ensembles, the average age of the members should not be over 32. 3. Enrolment for the competition must take place by 30rd June 2012 , using the form on the site [2]www.consaq.it. The form should be sent to: Conservatorio Statale di Musica 'A.Casella' - Concorso Internazionale di Musica 'M.Pratola' - Via Francesco Savini s.n.c 67100 L'Aquila. Please enclose the receipt for the enrolment payment. The enrolment payment can be made by bank transfer to the following account: Conservatorio di Musica 'A.Casella', L'Aquila, Bank: CARISPAQ S.p.A - L'Aquila, IBAN: IT4600604003601000000103100. ENROLMENT FEE The enrolment fee is 60 euros for solo lutists and 30 euros for each musician in the Chamber Ensemble. PROCEDURE: 1. An identity document and a copy of the pieces to be performed must be given to the jury at the beginning of the audition 2. The jury will be made up of famous musicians, musicologists and people working in the music sector. 3. The final mark, which cannot be appealed against, is out of 100. 4. The first section of the competition, which is reserved for lutists (the lute can be any historical variety of the instrument, from the vihuela de mano to the baroque guitar) involves a preliminary selection of the participants through the performance of pieces chosen by the soloist. These pieces must include at least one composition by Marco dall'Aquila lasting no longer than 20 minutes. The best three ensembles will go through to the final heat, where they will perform a 45- minute concert programme. The choice of the pieces is free but they cannot have been written later than 1750. 5. The works performed in the preliminary selection procedure (in both sections 1 and 2) can be repeated in the final. 6. The performances must be played on period instruments in keeping with performance customs of the times. 7. The winners of both sections, the Lutists and Chamber Ensembles, must give a free prizewinners' concert (failure to do so will mean the prize will be taken away and given to the second prize winner) 8. The winning contestant will not be entitled to any royalties of any kind either video or radio. 9. Contestants will be admitted to the various heats in accordance with a calendar to be published on the site and notice board of the Conservatoire PRIZES 1. All contestants will receive a participant's diploma. 2. All finalists will be presented with a plaque, a diploma and a certificate with their final ranking. 3. The first Lutist of the Concorso Internazionale di Musica Antica 'Maurizio Pratola', will win a prize of 1.500 euros and the possibily of performing one or more concerts for important musical Institutions. 4. The best Chamber Ensemble in the Concorso Internazionale di Musica Antica 'Maurizio Pratola' will win a prize of 2.000 euros and the possibilty of performing one or more concerts for important musical Institutions. The concerts included in the prizes are to be held according to the wishes of the respective artistic directors of the following Institutions: -Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese -I Solisti Aquilani -Societa' Aquilana dei Concerti "B. Riccitelli' -Roma Barocco Festival CHANGES TO THIS ANNOUNCEMENT The organizing committee of this competition reserves the right to make any changes necessary in order to improve the final event. Such changes, should they be made, will be rendered public on the site and the Consevatoire's notice board. Casella" dell'Aquila e, successivamente, in Liuto presso il "Royal College of Music" di Londra, sotto la guida di Jakob Lindberg. Dal 2004 ha intrapreso anche lo studio della Viola da gamba. Si e laureato in Musicologia presso l'Universit`a degli Studi di Bologna, discutendo una tesi su J. J. Kapsberger. Ha suonato in diversi paesi europei, tra cui l'Italia, sia da solista sia in formazioni cameristiche e orchestrali. In qualit`a di tiorbista ha suonato sotto la direzione di celebri direttori (Linden Baroque Orchestra, diretta da Paul Goodwin; Alamire e i Febi Armonici, diretti da Alan Curtis, ecc...). Ha inciso un CD dedicato al liutista Marco dall'Aquila, per il quale ha organizzato, nel 1998, il I Con-vegno Internazionale di Studi, al quale hanno partecipato insigni musicologi e il celebre liutista Paul O'Dette. Con quest'ultimo ha curato, inoltre, l'edizione critica delle Opere di Marco dall'Aquila. Con Modo Antiquo, diretto da Federico Maria Sardelli, ha preso parte all'incisione di un CD della cantante Anna Caterina Antonacci, dedicato a capolavori del Seicento.
