The camera-obscura debacle has been rebutted many times from many corners and many angles,
and it lost its credibility, if it ever had any.
Traditional draftsmanship was capable of amazing things, but is practically extinct, and Hockney
was simply looking for excuses for his own deficiencies.

   Years ago, I submitted the Durer lute-perspective as a letter to
  partially rebut the camera obscura debate (they maintained that that
  was no evidence of a mechanism for perspective) but it was never
  published.
