There is a chaconne to close one of the duos in the London manuscript (the one
often referenced as duo 4, SC 14). The flute line has been reconstructed a
number of times. I'm sure others on this list can point you towards available
scores. Here are a few recordings of the piece that I like. Sacrilege
perhaps, but I really like Duo Ahlert & Schwab's approach, reconstructing the
soprano line for 6-course mandolino:
http://www.amazon.com/Sonatas-Baroque-Lute-Mandolin/dp/B000MRP1SW/. I'm still
a fan of Michel Cardin's monumental effort to record the whole of the London
Manuscript:
http://www.amazon.com/Weiss-The-London-Manuscript-Cardin/dp/B0007PSA50/.
Sollscher's approach is odd in playing the lute part as a solo without
reconstruction: http://www.amazon.com/Greensleeves/dp/B003M13BAA/. The result
is an odd alternating of flourish-rich couplets with those dominated by simply
pulsing chords.

Best,
Eugene

Subject: [LUTE] Weiss Ciaconna + flute

Apologies for possible misspelling of the piece, and even more likely
misremembering. But I seem to recall there is a Weiss ciaconna which is
supposed to be the lute part of a duet with flute or other such thing.

Firstly, is this the case? Secondly, if it is, has anybody reconstructed a
notional flute (or other...) part to go with it?

Many thanks,

Stephen
