You can use it as a medieval lute- as was done many years ago by musicians who had no useable modern reproductions (Thomas Binkley?). Bottom line- single line melodies only, preferably played with a quill. No 16th century polyphony, let alone later stuff. The courses are much too close together for anything else, unless you have unusually small & precise fingertips. You would have to tie frets on it, unless you want to master some wonderfully precise intonation ability. If that's a direction you would like to take, go for it!
