I have just heard from the real Magdalena: "I am well, in Canada and I am very sorry about that s**m letter. It is not from me, my other e-mail has been hacked, as you guessed. I can't write from my other e-mail right now."
It seems Dan merely responded to the evil message without scrubbing it of the fantasy content. I'm sure many of us would have done the same without thinking that perhaps it was propagating the dreaded tinned meat byproduct. Now we know.
