The first half of the Bream concert with lute was one of the most beautiful things I had heard at that time. When he brought out the guitar for the second half, it was almost a letdown.

He was the first to introduce the lute repertoire to a broader public, probably realizing that it was much better quality than much of the guitar repertoire.
