'Shusha myra bear' from William Hamilton Bird's: Oriental Miscellany,
published in Calcutta, 1789. This is a very simple but evocative piece
(I think so, anyway). The first and main part of the Oriental Miscellany
is made up of simple harpsichord arrangements (said to be the first
Indian music that a European tried to notate). The second part is made
up of arrangements for guitar.
Sometimes the keyboard version is in a different key from the guitar
version of the air, but the guitar version of 'Shusha myra bear' is in
the same key and hardly more than the right hand of the keyboard. But in
other airs (which, like the keyboard versions, can have variations) the
guitar part can be (relatively speaking) quite challenging. The guitar
music often explores higher frets than usual. For 'Shusha myra bear' it
looks like Bird has gone for a very stripped down, elemental version of
the Air (.. perhaps!).
