Bob: I have to agree with Howard's suspicion that this is a contemporary
photograph, probably modified in photoshop. The design is too sparse, too
simple for a 17th century painting. A still life from that period would have
more musical instruments and more food and drink items on the table, plus a
book or a globe, and it would use at least a shiny satin or damask tablecloth,
more artistically draped, if not a woven table covering of some sort. The
flame of the candle is also depicted too simplistically for a painting of that
era -- it looks like a time exposure, averaging out the colors and detail of a
real flame at any given instant. Kenneth, are you on the list? Any opinion?
Regards, Daniel

Are you sure it's a painting and not a photograph?
