Thanks, Stuart! Lovely little piece, and a witty video presentation, too. Would you ever consider including a passing photo of the instrument, though? I always wish you would. Best for the new year, Chris.

It's an aria from an opera and Alexander Batov has kindly suggested it might be "from a comic opera by Nicolas Isouard "Joconde ou Les coureurs d'aventures" (1814), which was staged in St-Petersburg in January 1815." Joconde here seems to mean 'rake' rather than Mona Lisa and a costumed 'Joconde' appears briefly in the video. On the other hand, the minor key section sounds very 'Russian' and not so opera-comique. Anyway there's a lot of nice music for this instrument that is not too difficult (as well as some very challenging music indeed). I'm playing it on a gut-strung 19th century Russian guitar (tuned D-G-B-D-G-B-D): [1][2]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK8Fe953cqY Stuart __________________________________________________________________ [2][avast-mail-stamp.png] This email is free from viruses and malware because [3]avast!
