Could this little piece (from the Buxheimer Orgelbuch) be the sort of thing that the new fingerstyle lute players played towards the end of the 15th century. It fits well in the range of a five-course lute and no parts cross. No doubt the more accomplished players would jazz it up more.
(I just had to omit one note to play it on five-courses)
