I learned many years ago about soap and chalk for pegs (I would think chalk would have more 'bite' than talk) - and i keep a small remnant of a piece of chalkboard chalk, and a small remnant of a bar of soap conveniently hidden in a corner of all my lute cases (with a small remnant of a pencil to apply graphite to the nut grooves if needed). trj
