Yes - you've reminded me that one of the defects of the otherwise excellent "Inspector Morse" series was the total lack of accuracy (to put it mildly) in the portrayal of what academics do, how they teach, and the nature of their subject matter, whether it be cell biology, history or psychology.

Oh, and the kind of houses they can afford to live in...
