If you have a copy of Vallet's first book (CNRS or facsimile) please have a look at the Essex galliard on page 36 (CNRS, No 32), bar 19:
| | | |\ | | | | O. | |. | _d___ __________ |_a___a___b___d__| |_b___b___d___ __| |________________| |_____ __________| |_d___d___b______| Even O'Dette plays this as in Vallet's book. However, I think this is awfully wrong and should be | | | |\ | | | | O. | |. | _d___a__________ |_a___b___b___d__| |_b_______d___ __| |________________| |_____d__________| |_d_______b______| as composed by Dowland. Of course the explanations is that the engraver shifted the chord down by one line. And it could be correct. However, if you know the original version it sounds terribly wrong. An opinions anybody?
