On my 8 course ren lute I have two notes that consistently sound
tinny (played alone, so it's not a tuning issue): 4th fret C# on the A
string; and 8th fret Eb on the treble. The degree of the problem is
variable, but generally persists through string changes. Frets are
good. Other courses at those frets are no problem. I don't use those
notes often, but that Eb, being high, really stands out!
Is this the "wolf" of my instrument, or does that term refer to
   sounded intervals?
Any ideas on cause or correction? I'm using gut strings in a
   bastard meantone, fyi.
   Thanks and regards,
   Leonard Williams
