I also think it looks really promising. I have been reading the commentary and analysis from the various tech websites on how they believe its going to go with interest. If OEMs, carriers and developers are interested enough in it then it could become a viable option. There is not a snowflake's chance in hell that Ubuntu is going to wipe out Android and iOS, but a small share of the market would be a win and they can work on growing it from there. I think one of the key things will be - will Linux desktop/laptop/ARM users want this as their phone in preference to Android? For me its an emphatic yes, the ability to contribute upstream and having a much closer fit to a full Linux distribution is a clear winner for me. For others the fact that it is Ubuntu might be cause to reject it, but I have always been pretty happy with Ubuntu as a distribution (though I use the KDE version exclusively). If I can get my hands on a Nexus, I will be installing this straight away.
I do love Firefox too, and they have managed to get donations from me by offering enticements of tshirts. Without open source projects offering tshirts, how would I ever get new clothes :) I was really impressed by the quality of their shirts too - organic cotton, carbon neutral and made using fair trade labour.
