Is the curie point of the magnetic medium higher or lower than the melting point of the aluminium the platters are made of? The curie point of iron is very high but presumably the harddisk medium is an alloy which might change things. On the flip side of this question, how many times have you encountered people who think a fire proof safe rating applies to harddisks stored inside?
