I've got an i9300 running 4.3 and an i9505 also running 4.3 -- both different kernels. Can't get newer without rooting the devices, but I don't want to do that .... I too want to get on with other things.
In the US Google Play store, you can buy Samsung devices WITH vanilla Android and most likely get the latest version running on it very easily. That's what I want here.
