Got the modinfo/vermagic right by cross compiling on my lappy.
Looks like from reading through this:

that this module and its tuner will not be working in 3.4 kernel
versions. Seems it was kernel 3.7 where it things were fully up & going
for this device.
Is there any way to back port this from a later kernel? I have not seen
a working kernel for sun4i armv7 later than 3.4.79 so I guess this means
the answer is no.
It works fine on a raspi on kernel 3.10.25+ but a different architecture.
The only other option is to wait for 3.15 to land for Allwinner chips -
unknown eta.

Ok this compile works without errors. Yay (have you any idea how
long I have been at this?) and creates a
dvb-usb-rtl2832u.ko
but not a
rtl2832u.ko
despite there being a bunch of files like rtl2832u.c and rtl2832u.o
and dmesg complains of no frontend:

So the make is running:

without errors and similar so should produce a rtl2832u.ko IMHO.
I found that the vermagic of the module produced was incorrect - it
should be
vermagic: 3.4.67-sun4i+ preempt mod_unload modversions ARMv7 p2v8
instead get:
vermagic: 3.4.67-sun4i preempt mod_unload modversions ARMv7 p2v8
In trying to track this down I have not found the source of sun4i
versus sun4i+. Is it being determined by scripts/setlocalversion by
any chance since .config and Makefile look correct.
I have attached the .config Makefile and setlocalversion files.
