Never! :-)

The way I've done it on my home machine is:

Pair of SSDs for OS
Pair of spinning rust for user data (an existing MD raid)

I installed Kubuntu 14.04 onto one SSD using btrfs as the filesystem, and made
sure I left some unpartitioned space (~1GB) free as experience on the btrfs
list (and from others) indicates this can help the FTL (the firmware) on some
SSDs with garbage collection. I then added the second SSD as a btrfs RAID-1
device and balanced the filesystem.

cheers,
Chris
