Hi Carl, Have you tried the Ubuntu or Mint Live CD or LIve USB?
Your wifi card has Linux issues. See: http://www.linux-hardware-guide.com/2012-11-04-asus-pce-n15-pcie-802-11n-300mbits-wps. I suggest you take it out, try a USB wifi dongle and see how that goes.
