Thanks for the response. I am using the Partitioning Tool in the install DVD. I used to remember an easier time several years back when using Madriva.Their Partition Manager was the best I have ever seen. I wonder if there is a rescue disc which could clean up this mess?
Possibly a simpler way out is to check to see if the low level tools fdisk or cfdisk is avaible on the disk. Neither of these tools particularly fdisk are very intelligent and they will erase any partition with only a single warning.
