I would say your disk is in the process of going bad. If you have
good, current backups, replace the disk and rebuild. If not, you can
try using Recovery is Possible or System Rescue CD. The bundled tools
will tell you more about the state of your hardware and perhaps permit
making a good copy.
Thanks Rick, I actually rsync everything to an local external drive
daily 8-)
