Not sure any of the responses look like your answer, but I too, may
have something extra which you /may/ find interesting, but also not
exactly along the lines of your enquiry.... ;-)

First off, I transfer files using rsync (over wifi) with ssh keys.

There is a thread on Debian Users about MTP.
