dmesg just brings up the log.
As soon as I ran dmesg the drive icon appeared on the desktop and I
can now access all the files...amazing.
Not sure why, but it may be a solution. Yet to see if it's repeatable.
Maybe there was a problem with the USB port (some boards have differnt
speeds but that shouldn't be an issue).
Anyway all that matters is it works!!
