Or if you know what kind of filesystem you have on those drives,
you can use the filesystem-specific labelling command, like
e2label or btrfs label (read the man pages).  You should
normally be able to do that while the filesystem is mounted,
though how well the label change propagates I don't know
(especially when desktop environments automount drives), so
umounting might be cleaner.
