The only drawback that I can find with the virtual server (VE) approach 
is that if you encounter a kernel panic then you lose all the VE's at 
once.  But that occurence is usually rare enough to warrant the small 
risk.  The VE solution is trailing behind VM solution for now but as 
soon as the VE support framework lands in the kernels then things will 
change.  There is much discussion on the kernel threads about this right 
now.  I think we will see about 50-50 breakdown between the two 
approaches to virtualization in the future.  As far as CO2 footprint and 
such, I'm afraid VE will win this type of battle easily.  Much less 
wasted cycles.
