I don't know that this has anything to do with your problem, but using ethernet aliases eg eth0:0 has caused problems before. Many of networking programs do not recognise aliases. It would be cleaner to use the iproute2 tools to configure the extra IP. If it turns out that it's not part of the problem, you can always go back to aliases.
