Simon, It turns out that iptables was the problem. I'm using "2. The redirect approach" to solve the ARP issue [1]. ie. I use rules similar to: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -d <VIP> --dport <vport> -j REDIRECT --to-port <vport> I forgot to add a new rule for port 443. Once that was added, all worked just fine.
