For a embedded system, having a RTOS is reasonable.... mult-task switch bring 
more cost...
But I really don't know why lwIP will hang ...

B is considerably more lightweight than A: less code, less resources
used, simpler implementation.  This all adds up to mean less bugs, and
better able to cope with a given load.
