Hi, I have never run LwIP over SPI or RS232 but that does not mean it will not work.
LwIP needs a way to send and receive data, hens the driver. MAC address is set in software when you initialize netif interface Modern SPI interfaces can run at 30Mbs As LwIP running on a small micro is not very fast the above can get you decent communication speed. All you need to do is write the driver and it should be OK.
