I think getaddrinfo as a standard function should behave like other stacks. Adding too many config options is not a good thing. However, this won't make it into the 2.1.3 relase but should be a patch against the master branch (which isn't too far from being released as well, but will be numbered 2.2.0 because of some not-so-small changes).
