Ah, there you go, then.  So use lxc to set up the machine, and tasksel
inside it.
It has a commandline interface, so you can script it.

"tasksel --task-packages lamp-server" will tell you.

According to http://wiki.debian.org/tasksel, recent versions of
tasksel in Debian just use role metapackages.  Not sure why Ubuntu
doesn't follow suit.
