Not sure about the current status of lxnm. Fred develops it, but it's not yet complete. Some reported that it's broken on their systems, and others reported that it worked flawlessly. So I guess it's related to the hardware used but I'm not sure what's the real problem. Personally, I use nm-applet + network manager rather than lxnm. Network manager + nm-applet works perfectly on my system and both of wicd and nm can work well on LXDE. If you like python, go for wicd. Otherwise, network manager + nm-applet is a good alternative. The latest network manager and nm-applet are quite good and I like them very much. The version shipped with Fedora 10 works like a charm.
