That document mentions also certain problems with the approach
and does not show clear solutions.

Hope it is too early to say this, even if it looks that way.

Unfortunately the proliferation of Gnome components does not seem to be
(only) a consequence of their inherent virtues, but also of

"badly" written code in Gnome which assumes a monolithic architecture
and makes it impossible to use the necessary parts separately;

resource limitations which force the developers of alternatives to Gnome
to reuse that code no matter what.

That's a pity.
