Unfortunately the proliferation of Gnome components does not seem to be (only) a consequence of their inherent virtues, but also of "badly" written code in Gnome which assumes a monolithic architecture and makes it impossible to use the necessary parts separately; resource limitations which force the developers of alternatives to Gnome to reuse that code no matter what.
