Well, in the normal case applications shouldn't write error messages ;) My concern was: User should HAVE a chance to catch output IF they want. I start lxsession using startlxde >$HOME/lxsession.stdout 2>$HOME/lxsession.stderr Users can redirect also to /dev/null or even use "grep pipes" to filter output. xfce-session also keeps stdout/stderr file descriptors.
