I works with an upstream project using Vala. It's pretty nice to use, but there is several little problems : - Build system support : some mouth ago, autotools didn't support Vala. The only system supporting it was waf, which have also several problem of stability. I don't know the exact situation now. - Usual breakages for every release : most release of Vala cause build failure on existing code. No big failures, but you need to check it. - Not always optimized C code : sometimes, the generated C code is not perfect.
Other that, people using it are quite happy, it's a very good replacement for C code using GObject.
