FWIW I find Geeqie <http://geeqie.sourceforge.net> to be the nicest one to
use, easy to use, switch between modes, and navigate. It is a slightly
improved version of gqview. This may not be especially lightweight, but and
I find it worth using an extra 2MB of RAM or so to have a much more usable
package. (And it's small compared to fully featured browsers and other
packages I use daily)
I heard that there is another version of gqview which also handled videos,
for an integrated media program. Unfortunately they named it *pornviewer*.
