gdmflexiserver is still available and works fine. all lxsession needs to
do is check if gdm is running. I think this is done with dbus nowerdays,
but it might be sufficient to check for an existing /var/run/gdm.pid and
check if the app running under this pid is really gdm.

Can everybody confirm that it is /var/run/gdm.pid on their system, too?
