Yes, good idea. This is already in our TODO list for quite some time but the
priority is lower.
We'll do it later when the file manager becomes more stable.
While this is a good idea, it's not suitable for Google SoC.
Given enough time per day can be devoted to the project, with glib/gio/gvfs,
that lxpanel plugin you mention can be done in about 3 days. Adding drive
icons to desktop can be done within about 1 week. So it's too easy for the
whole summer. Google summer of Code project should be something with larger
scale. Thanks.
