Dear Lubuntu users and developers,

first of all - thanks for creating Lubuntu - it makes using LXDE in Ubuntu an
even better experience than before!

Unfortunately I am experiencing a sound / volume problem with Lubuntu: When
pressing the hardware buttons for volume adjustment and mute it seems to have
no effect. The buttons do not trigger any alsa events (at least from what I
see in alsamixer) and thus the LXPanel Volume App does not visualize them.
Nevertheless, to adjust volume you have to do two things:

a.) Adjust the alsamixer volume (visible for the end user)
b.) Press the hardware buttons (invisible for the end user)

Since pressing the hardware buttons gives no feedback, novice users might get
very confused why their sound is not working. I can confirm the issue on the
following machines: A Thinkpad X21 (P3-700, 256MB) and a Thinkpad X40 (P-
M-1.2, 1GB). While the old X21 does not generate any ACPI events when pressing
the buttons, the newer X40 does.

I can imagine that this issue might be related to the absent pulseaudio
packages, and the way Ubuntu deals with sound using pulseaudio.

Any hints on how to fix this are warmly welcome!

Regards, Daniel
