waiting for pcman answer, i guess it can be used.
actually nautilus (just for example) open

//path as it was /path
without any other concern.

i guess that what follow the same thing or we can do like this:

allow the user to type even ///////path

as soon the user type enter, the "wrong" path is converted to the right
one (/path) and the latter is opened.

just my 2 cents
