What exactly is the problem with ristretto? I don't think this makes sense as ristretto targets Xfce and relies on Xfce libraries such as libxfce4ui, libxfce4util or xfconf. Joining forces of gpicview and viewnior however could make sense. LXDE currently doesn't seem to have the manpower to maintain gpicview. Viewnior has a nice and clean UI but lacks some features that gpicview already has such as lossless JPEG rotation.
