For an upstream point of view, depending on the packaging is probably
not a good idea. We can't expect that all programs, all packagers will
do the right thing, all the time.

If the problem is to call the new menu-cache when a desktop file is
installed, lxsession can monitor the content of some directories, and
call the new menu-cache for each modification. However, we still have to
monitors the directories :-(
