The problem happens on a wide screen (1600x900) Packard Bell laptop with
ATI video card.
On Unity desktop anyway maximizing the desktop doesn't cause any problem.
I found out that removing the proprietary driver the problem ceases while
the microphone stops to work (excellent).
I will probably just avoid Packard Bell and ATI in future :(
